How DropIn protects your live location and number plate

Learn when DropIn uses GPS, who can see a vehicle plate, how phone-call permission works and when private handover access ends.

Before acceptance

DropIn uses location privately to determine whether members are close enough for a practical proposal. The finder does not receive the giver’s exact parking coordinates or plate while waiting.

The giver can review limited community information and approximate arrival context before deciding whether to accept.

During an accepted handover

These details are practical for recognising the correct car and reducing uncertainty during the short journey.

  • Both members see the selected vehicle make, model, colour and plate.
  • Both members see the live handover positions and approximate arrival progress.
  • The giver decides whether the finder may see a callable phone number.
  • In-app status messages can be used without granting call permission.

When the handover ends

Completion, cancellation, interruption or expiry closes access to the other member’s live GPS, plate and call details. A stale screen should not continue exposing the previous match.

Activity history can retain a general handover outcome and area-level context without presenting a precise historical route to members.

Control your device permissions

Your phone and browser control whether DropIn receives location. You can review or revoke location permission in device settings, but doing so during an active handover can pause the live map and make coordination harder.

Use a unique member passcode, change it if someone else learns it and use Sign out other devices from your profile when needed.

Questions about this guide

Is my plate visible on the public homepage?

No. The public activity display never shows identity, plate or exact GPS.

Can every nearby member see my location?

No. Exact location is limited to the accepted one-to-one match while the handover is active.

Is my phone number shared automatically?

No. The departing member must explicitly allow a call for that active handover.
