How to give a car park with DropIn
Learn how to offer your public car park to one nearby DropIn member, approve the person and coordinate a safe vehicle handover.
Offer only when you are ready
Start a DropIn when you can realistically leave within the time you select. That makes the arrival estimate useful and avoids making another person wait unnecessarily.
If someone is already visibly waiting for your space or you have already promised it directly, complete that arrangement and do not activate a second handover.
Confirm the correct bay
GPS places a pin close to your phone. Check the map and make a small adjustment if the pin is not on the bay where your car is parked.
- Tap Give a park and allow precise location.
- Confirm the selected vehicle and plate.
- Place the pin on the correct parking bay.
- Choose how soon you expect to leave.
- Keep DropIn open while it looks for a nearby member.
Review the person requesting the park
DropIn shows the nearby member’s display name and community information before you decide. Accept only if you are comfortable and their estimated arrival fits your departure.
After acceptance, the app reveals the selected vehicles and plates to both people. You can allow a phone call if you want; otherwise in-app status messages remain available.
Wait for the correct car
Stay safely parked until the matched car is close and recognisable. The live map and approximate arrival time help you understand where they are without needing repeated calls.
If circumstances change, use Stop sharing or report a handover problem. Do not reverse into traffic just to meet an app timer.
Questions about this guide
Do I have to accept the first request?
No. You may pass if the member is too far away, the timing is not right or you are not comfortable with the handover.
Should I leave before the other car arrives?
Wait safely in the legal bay until you can identify the matched car nearby. Do not block traffic or ignore parking restrictions while waiting.
Can the finder call me?
Only if you explicitly allow the call after matching. Otherwise your phone number stays private.
