How to find a car park with DropIn
A step-by-step guide to finding a nearby car park handover with DropIn, from GPS permission to giver approval and safe arrival.
Before you start
Use DropIn only when you are ready to travel to a nearby handover. Your phone needs an internet connection and location permission.
- Choose the vehicle you are currently driving so the giver can recognise you.
- Keep DropIn open while searching and travelling to a confirmed match.
- Do not stop in a traffic lane, block another vehicle or use your phone while driving.
Find a park in five steps
DropIn keeps the search simple and does not ask you to type an address.
- Tap Find a park.
- Allow precise location and check that the map marker reflects where you are.
- Wait while the radar searches for a close, practical handover.
- When a giver reviews your request, wait for their acceptance before travelling toward a specific car.
- After acceptance, use the live map, vehicle details and arrival estimate to identify the correct handover.
What you see after acceptance
The confirmed match shows the giver’s selected vehicle, plate and exact handover pin. The map updates as you move, and the giver can see your approach too.
You may open Apple Maps, Google Maps or Waze for driving guidance while the DropIn handover remains active. DropIn’s own arrival estimate is approximate and can change as GPS updates.
If the space is lost
Public parking remains public. If another vehicle takes the space or the handover becomes unsafe, use the problem option instead of arguing. DropIn can close the interrupted handover and return you to searching without treating it as a normal cancellation.
Never confront another driver or block traffic to protect a parking space.
Questions about this guide
How close do I need to be?
DropIn considers eligible members within up to 1.2 kilometres, then weighs practical arrival timing and proximity. A match is not guaranteed.
Can I choose a specific parking bay?
No. Find searches for a real handover being offered nearby. The exact bay appears only after the departing person accepts you.
Can the giver reject my request?
Yes. The giver can accept or pass. This keeps the voluntary handover under the control of the person currently parked.
