How to fix GPS and location permission for DropIn

Troubleshoot missing location prompts, inaccurate GPS, blocked browser permissions and paused live updates on iPhone and Android.

Why a prompt may not appear

A browser normally prompts only the first time a site requests location. If permission was previously denied, the phone may remember that choice and show no new pop-up.

Private browsing, embedded in-app browsers and system-level Location Services can also affect whether the request reaches DropIn.

Fix location on iPhone

Menu wording can vary between iOS versions.

  1. Open Settings, then Privacy & Security and Location Services; make sure Location Services is on.
  2. Open the settings for Safari Websites or the browser you use and allow location while using the app.
  3. Make sure Precise Location is enabled.
  4. Open DropIn directly in Safari rather than inside a social-media browser.
  5. Return to the Give or Find flow and tap the GPS refresh option.

Fix location on Android

Manufacturer menus can differ, but both the app permission and the browser site permission must allow location.

  1. Open Settings and confirm Location is on.
  2. Open Apps, choose Chrome or your browser, then Permissions and Location.
  3. Allow location while using the app and enable precise location.
  4. In Chrome, open site settings for thedropin.com.au and allow Location.
  5. Reload DropIn and refresh GPS.

Improve an inaccurate reading

If GPS still cannot establish a credible position, do not create the handover.

  • Move away from concrete walls, dense buildings or a covered structure if safe.
  • Turn off low-power mode temporarily if it is limiting location updates.
  • Keep Wi-Fi and mobile data available because phones can use nearby networks to improve positioning.
  • Wait for a newer reading before confirming the parking pin.
  • Do not drag the pin to a distant car park; DropIn limits corrections for safety.

Questions about this guide

Why did DropIn not ask for location?

Your browser may already have a saved Allow or Deny decision. Open the site permission settings and change Location to Allow.

Why does my position move on the map?

Phone location has an accuracy range and may refine itself as satellite, Wi-Fi and network information changes.

Will refreshing GPS cancel my match?

No. The recovery flow is designed to update location while preserving an active handover.
